What A Weekend

If you follow my social media accounts you may well have seen all the news and business from this weekend, but for those that don’t, I sure have a lot to tell you.

This weekend I was cat sitting for my friends who were getting married.  Their gorgeous black lady cat is called Kitton and she is the most human friendly cat I have ever met.  She helped me write some of my thank you notes from my birthday, as well as napping on my lap while I read my book after the party and warming my thighs after I walked through the snow the next morning.

Kitton and I after the evening party, when I went to see how she was doing and give her some supper.  She wasn’t interested in supper, just wanted to snuggle.

Preparing for a nap as I ate my breakfast.

Following Sunday mornings visit to check on Kitton, I returned home and opened a parcel that arrived on Saturday afternoon.  I knew what it was, but I didn’t want to open it until I had the time to sort it out properly.

Last week, a friend sent me a link to some cute cat houses that were going for cheap on eBay.  I spontaneously purchased one without really knowing where it would go, but they were too cute and well priced not to snap up the deal.

So after a short while with a screwdriver and a spanner, the house was complete.  Luckily it was the purrfect fit for the lounge where the cats toy boxes normally live and it’s roof top patio was just right for the toy box to move to.

The cat’s aren’t too sure about it at the moment – they have both peeped inside, but even with blankets and cat nip in there, they’ve not fully gone in to see how great it is.  I’m sure they will eventually though.  And even if they don’t, it’s super cute and it’s staying because I love it.

And last in the news, but by no means least, I can finally reveal the secret that I’ve been keeping for some time now.  It’s something I have thought about doing for years and Ifinally decided that I should take the plunge.

I’ve completed my training and finally got everything sorted out ready to become a fosterer for Cats Protection Lanarkshire.

Yesterday, Cathy & Sandy, the coordinators, came around with the paperwork I will need for vets visits and adoptions, as well as a few other bits and pieces I may need. I have cleaned and sorted the spare bedroom to become the foster room and hopefully by the end of this week I will have my first foster!

I’m really excited about the adventure and a little bit nervous.  There was A LOT to read and lots of regulations and information to process, but hopefully it will go smoothly and Laser and McLaren won’t be too stressed by the change.  It is something I have wanted to do for some time, and I’m so excited to finally be able to help the charity in a more meaningful way than small donations.

I adopted McLaren from Cathy and I know how much Cats Protection love all the kitties as well as advocating for cat welfare, neutering and adoption.  They are a charity I have supported for a long time and to be allowed to foster will be a great honour for me.

Of course, I will be keeping you all up-to-date with foster news and I’m sure those of you that already foster will have wonderful advice if I ever need it!

One last little detail before I let you continue with the start of the week.  McLaren has asked me to tell you that he has his own twitter account now.  He has made quite a few friends over the weekend, but would love it if he could make some more.  His account is McLarenTheCat.  Some of you may find you already follow it, as I changed my abandoned Carry Loves Cats account for him.  (Note:  my personal account has changed to Carry Loves Cats so you can still follow me too!)

Don’t forget to keep up with Carry, Laser & McLaren’s antics on our social media accounts:

I’m really excited, although reading about the instances where cats are so injured/sick that they are put down or some of the reasons they end up in foster care was really sad. I’m just going to try and focus on giving them the best possible time while they’re with me and hopefully find them the purrfect new furever family.

Congratulations! – Cats Protection couldn’t have a better volunteer and the cats will be so well taken care of! McLaren and Laser will adjust, no worries.

Congratulations on being a foster! My step daughter manages a local “no-kill” shelter here in Michigan and has also fostered for years (yep, a number of her “foster fails” came to live with her permanently too)……..love the kitty you were catsitting for also. You had one heck of a weekend. I think you will be a great foster mom!
